The Tusket River ( Nikitaouksit, "Great Forked Tidal River ") is the main river that flows through Yarmouth County in southwest Nova Scotia .

Its tributaries are the Carlton, Silver, Napier, Caribou, and Quinan Rivers. The Tusket River is a recreational area and a popular destination for canoeists and anglers .

ecology

The river's ecosystem was threatened in 1986 by tin mining from the Rio Algom mine . Interventions by conservationists and finally the closure of the mine in 1992 prevented further pollution. After the ecosystem recovered quickly, it is now threatened again by clear cuts in the timber industry. Efforts are now being made to place the adjacent bank areas under nature protection in order to preserve the originality of the river landscape.
