The Gulf of Maine ( English Gulf of Maine , German also Mainegolf ) is a 93,000 km² large marginal sea of the Atlantic on the east coast of North America . The gulf lies between Cape Cod in Massachusetts , USA and Sable Island east of Nova Scotia , Canada . It includes the entire coastline of the US states of New Hampshire and Maine , as well as that of Massachusetts, north of Cape Cod and the southern and western coastlines of the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Massachusetts Bay and Fundy Bay are integrated into the system of the Gulf of Maine . The Gulf of Maine has the highest tidal range on earth (see Fundy Bay).
