Tuttist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tuttist (in Italian tutti 'all', the opposite of soloist ) is a musician in classical music who plays or sings with others in a vocal group , i.e. is not active as a soloist . In the modern symphony orchestra this applies almost exclusively to strings . Another name is ripienist .

Because of the presumably ungrateful task of never playing a soloist and the somewhat poorer pay, the joking despicable term " Tuttischwein" for Tuttists has developed in musicians' jargon .
