Accumulation of cancer
The mineral erionite occurs in Tuzköy , which is carcinogenic and can lead to mesothelioma . In Tuzköy, this is the leading cause of death. It is believed that the residents get sick as they inhale the dangerous dust from the stones with which their houses are built. The incidence of mesothelioma is around 600 - 800 times greater than in the rest of Turkey.
The aim is to move the entire village into a specially built new village and to cover the original village with a layer of earth, rubble or the like.
