Tuzoia canadensis is an extinct species from the genus Tuzoia with an uncertain position within the arthropods (Arthropoda).

features

Tuzoia canadensis had an ovoid shape (length to height ratio about 1.46). The upper edge was straight to slightly convex and had several almost triangular spines, which became more towards the rear and often had secondary spines. The anterior rostrum was relatively short, pointing slightly upwards and also had secondary spines. The posterior rostrum was relatively small, but had no secondary spines. There was a slender spine in the middle and on the ventral side on the rear edge, the middle one being mostly smaller. On the rear edge there were several other small spines and also on the lower edge there were 12 very short spines, which decreased in size towards the front. The side elevation between the top and bottom had 7 broad, flat spines. The net-like structure of the surface stretched over the entire tank.

Locations

The species was rarely found in the Burgess Shale in the Canadian Rockies .

Systematics

The species was first described by Charles Elmer Resser in 1929 . Chlupáč & Kordule 2002 regard Tuzoia canadensis as a younger synonym of the type species Tuzoia retifera . Vannier et al. 2007 see Tuzoia praemorsa Resser, 1929 a synonym for Tuzoia canadensis .
