The Tweedsmuir Glacier is a 60 km long and 3.6 km wide outlet glacier of the Kluane Icefield in the east of the Elias Range in Yukon and British Columbia ( Canada ).
The glacier's nutrient zone is located in the Kluane National Park in the Yukon Territory below Mount Stefansson at an altitude of 1400 m . After about 7 km the glacier crosses the border into British Columbia. There it flows in a predominantly east-southeast direction through the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park . The lower end of the glacier is on the west bank of the Alsek River at an altitude of about 230 m . Shortly before that, the Vern Ritchie Glacier , a smaller side glacier, meets the Tweedsmuir Glacier from the right.
The Tweedsmuir Glacier is 60 km below the Lowell Glacier on the Alsek River. In 1973 and 1974, as well as 2007 and 2008, the Tweedsmuir Glacier was on the verge of blocking the Alsek River. The Alsek River flows through the Turnback Canyon directly below the Tweedsmuir Glacier .
