Twelve Local Heroes
The Twelve Local Heroes (" Twelve Local Heroes ") are twelve busts cast from bronze in the city center of the New Zealand city of Christchurch . You are standing on Worcester Boulevard in front of the Christchurch Arts Center . They commemorate twelve citizens of the city who distinguished themselves in their respective fields at the end of the 20th century.
history
The creation of the sculptures was supported by the Twelve Local Heroes charitable trust . It took four years until the sculptures were unveiled on March 18, 2009. The sculptures were created by Mark Whyte. After the earthquake in Christchurch, they were temporarily dismantled to rebuild the surrounding buildings.
