TwoGo (previously: TwoGo by SAP ) is a cloud-based software solution for arranging car pools . Ride requests can interested parties about mobile app , via the web browser or via online - calendar set. After the application was initially only available to its own workforce and individual business customers worldwide, private users have also been able to use TwoGo's placement service free of charge since summer 2014 . Compared to many passive switching centers, the trip brokerage works via TwoGo algorithm-supported and therefore usually without additional coordination cycles.

history

The idea of designing an online passenger platform is based on the initiative of two developers at SAP SE. When they were stuck in a traffic jam on their way to work, they noticed that the majority of road users were sitting alone in the car. If only two commuters were to drive together, the traffic could possibly flow. As a result, the two developers worked on a corresponding solution and in 2010 they won an in-house programming competition with TwoGo .

In 2011, the passenger platform was introduced worldwide within the company. In April 2013, TwoGo started marketing for business customers. In addition to the placement of TwoGo in various municipalities, companies such as Adidas , Puma , Amazon , Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and BASF are now among the customers.

Since July 2014, TwoGo has also been able to arrange a car pool for private individuals free of charge.

The Schwarz Group took over TwoGo in August 2019.

Concept & functions

After registering with TwoGo , users can set their travel options and create their travel preferences. On the basis of a special algorithm, TwoGo searches for suitable ridesharing opportunities up to five minutes before departure and automatically mediates users based on their preferences.

Registration takes place by entering an e-mail address on the website or one of the mobile apps of the agency service. First, users can set their own personal driving options. This includes, for example, information on the home address or the vehicle. In addition, users have the option of setting a profile picture here. Drivers can describe their car with information about the make and model as well as a picture.

In order to take part in a ride, users must first create a ride request in order to define the time, location, route and ride settings for their ride. In addition, users can also search for existing journeys that are anonymously displayed on timetables or maps. You can manage your travel preferences either in the web application, via the mobile apps or your calendar application. TwoGo will now automatically search for other users' travel requests that match the corresponding information. The desired route, the number of free seats, the maximum detour time and the pick-up point are taken into account. The assignment of the two users takes place automatically and thus saves supposed coordination cycles. Current traffic data from the HERE map material is included in the transfer according to the time specified by the participants. An overview shows the participants not yet arranged and upcoming journeys.

If TwoGo does not find a match for the desired journey, the platform makes suggestions for alternative journeys according to the principle of the "intelligent assistant", indicates journeys from the neighborhood or shows other similar journey offers on a departure board. Small changes to the original travel request can then lead to a mediation with them. Jump notifications on social media also increase the brokerage of trips. TwoGo offers the possibility to share trips online or to invite other people to use the platform.

Benefits TwoGo companies can move around in their own user environment depending on their preferences. In this case, trips are only arranged in the registered group of employees. Furthermore, TwoGo can be used for the capacity planning of works buses and shuttle services.

TwoGo can be accessed via an internet browser. The mobile apps are available free of charge in the App Store for iOS and in the Google Play Store as well as in the Amazon Appstore for Android mobile devices. It is also possible to set travel requests using calendar applications that support the iCalendar standard.

Security & discretion

Only when a perfectly suitable travel partner has been found does TwoGo transmit the users' personal data to the participants. Information on available routes is made anonymously, be it on the timetable boards or the maps, until a mediation takes place. So nobody can see from the lists when exactly a user is on the road. Passengers also do not receive any information about the start and destination of their driver, only the meeting points for the group are transmitted. Individual security needs are met through settings such as the specification of blocked people or the option of being placed with other women as a woman.
