Twynholm is a village in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway or the traditional county of Kirkcudbrightshire .

The place has an elementary school, farm shop and gas station and is just off the A75 about eight miles west of the small town of Castle Douglas .

Shortly before Christmas 2013, the two treasure hunters Gus Paterson and Derek McLennan discovered a treasure of at least 300 silver coins from the Middle Ages with the help of a metal detector in a field near Twynholm. It was the largest find of medieval silver coins ever made in Scotland.
