Tylecodon cacalioides is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon cacalioides grows as an upright and branched shrub and reaches a height of 50 centimeters. The single main shoot reaches 5 centimeters in diameter and has a yellowish, gray and peeling bark. The other, gray-green shoots are 15 to 18 millimeters in diameter. On the shoots there are short, 1 to 2 millimeter long phyllopodia, which can also be missing on older shoots. The crowded and bare leaves are 6.8 inches long and 0.4 inches wide. Young leaves can also be covered with glandular hairs. They are gray-green, linear, almost round and curved inward. The upper side of the leaf can rarely be slightly furrowed.

The inflorescence is formed by upright thyrses with up to 7 spread monochasia and is up to 55 centimeters high. The inflorescence stalk covered with glandular hairs and later balding becomes 7 millimeters in diameter at the base. The spread out single flowers have a stalk that is up to 7 millimeters long. The tubular, sulfur-yellow corolla is 17 to 25 millimeters long and 5 to 6 millimeters in diameter. The extended tips are later bent back.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon cacalioides is widespread in South Africa in the Western Cape Province in the Succulent Karoo . The first description was in 1781 as Cotyledon cacalioides by Carl von Linné's son . 1978 Helmut Richard Tölken put the species in the genus Tylecodon . Synonyms for the species are Cacalia papillaris L. , Kleinia papillaris (L.) Haw. , Senecio papillaris (L.) Sch.Bip. and Tylecodon papillaris (L.) GDRowley .
