Tylecodon occultans is a species of the genus Tylecodon in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Tylecodon occultans grows as a very small plant with a slightly spherical and bulbous underground base that is up to 1.5 centimeters in diameter. The caudex has a gray bark and a flaky bark. One or two underground or sometimes above-ground shoots are formed. These are up to 1 centimeter high and 5 to 8 millimeters in diameter. One or sometimes two of the circular and flat leaves are formed. These are bent back and pressed to the ground, shaped like a shield, covered with glandular hair and they become 1 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter.

The inflorescence consists of upright and up to 8 centimeters high thyrsen that carry one or three monochasia . The linear bracts are 2 millimeters long. The upright flowers are on a 10 to 12 millimeter long peduncle. The linear sepals are 2 to 3 millimeters long. The tubular corolla tube is bare, pale yellowish to yellowish green in color and is 12 to 15 millimeters long and 2.5 millimeters in diameter. The bent back tips are 1.5 millimeters long.

Systematics and distribution

Tylecodon occultans is distributed in South Africa in the Western Cape Province in the Succulent Karoo on quartz gravel plains. It was first described in 1977 by Helmut Richard Tölken as a cotyledon occultans . Tölken himself placed the species in the genus Tylecodon in 1978 .
