The Type 64 MAT ( Japanese 64 式 対 戦 車 誘導 弾 , 64-shiki taisensha yūdōdan , German "anti-tank guided weapon type 64") was a wire-guided anti - tank missile , which was developed in the late 1950s. The guided weapon is very similar to the MBB COBRA and the 9M14 Maljutka . It is also referred to as 64MAT or KAM-3 within the JGSDF .
technology
Development of the rocket began in 1957 and entered service in 1964 as the Type 64 MAT . The gun was manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries . Although the majority of the guided missiles have been replaced by the Type 79 Jyu-MAT and Type 87 Chu-MAT , a small part is still held as a reserve.
Two guided weapons are transported in start boxes on a Mitsubishi Type 73 Light Truck , two additional weapons are available as reserves. The system is operated by three men. The weapon is powered by a solid rocket engine and reaches its cruising speed in 0.8 seconds. To do this, the starting canister is inclined by 15 ° to the horizontal, the operator then guides the weapon manually into the target (MCLOS).
