Lists on the subject |
The Type 87 Chu-MAT is a Japanese laser-guided anti - tank missile that was put into service together with the Type 79 Jyu- MAT to replace the obsolete Type 64 MAT .
history
Development began in 1976, the first prototype of the entire system was completed in 1985. Troops of the ground self-defense forces have been equipped with it since 1989. The system consists of a starter, a laser target marker and two heavy tripods .
In 2007 it became known that the Technical Research and Development Institute ( TRDI ) was developing a successor weapon called the Shin Chu-MAT .
technology
The system is similar to the 9K135 Kornet in all respects , but is less powerful. As a special feature, starters and laser target markers can be mounted on different tripods, so the starter is remote-controlled. Both units may be a maximum of 200 meters apart.
The weapon can also be mounted on a Mitsubishi Type 73 off-road vehicle or a Komatsu LAV .
