The Komatsu LAV ( Japanese 軽 装甲 機動車 , Keisōkōkidōsha ) is an amphibious four-wheeled (4 × 4) military vehicle with light armor. It is made in Japan and is mainly used to explore difficult terrain.

The Komatsu LAV was developed in 1997. It arose from the request of the Japanese ground self-defense forces for a light reconnaissance vehicle that should offer reliable protection against projectiles from handguns . The first copies were made in 2002 by Komatsu Ltd. made in Komatsu City . The vehicle has so far been used in the Iraq war and in humanitarian missions in Kuwait . There are around 1000 vehicles in use by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.
Equipment / armament
The armament or equipment of the Komatsu LAV varies, so the vehicle can be armed with a 7.62 mm machine gun or with a 12.7 mm MG M2HB . In addition, it is possible to make the Komatsu LAV for anti-tank vehicle by the Japanese fire-and-forget - anti-tank missile type 01 LMAT or Type 87 Chu-MAT is used.
