Johann the devil
Johann Teufel ( December 12, 1896 in Vienna - June 16, 1943 there ) was an Austrian carpenter's assistant and resistance fighter against National Socialism .
Life and execution
Teufel was a carpenter's assistant at Steyr Daimler Puch and a member of the KPÖ . In September 1941 he was arrested for his work for the KPÖ and sentenced to death by the People's Court on November 21, 1942 for “preparing for high treason ”. Johann devil was on 16 June 1943 in the Regional Court of Vienna with the guillotine executed.
Commemoration
- In 1956, Johann-Teufel-Gasse was named after him in the Mauer district of Vienna .
- On November 1, 1954, the freedom fighter memorial was unveiled in the Atzgersdorf cemetery , designed by the sculptor Franz Pixner . It commemorates a total of 24 resistance fighters who lost their lives to Austrofascism and the Nazi regime : Anton Bergauer , Leo Dworschak , Hans Fröhlich , Karl Griesbach , Franz Hauer , Franz and Michael Heindl , Leopold Hofmann , Therese Klostermann , Richard Lehmann , Rudolf Mekiska , Viktor Mrnustik , Heinrich Müller , Josef Müller , Leopold Müller , Josef Nagl , Johann Sauer , Karl Schafhauser , Fritz Seiler , Max Spanner , Leopold Stípčak , Richard Suchy , Johann Teufel and Josef Willinger . However, he was erroneously listed as Josef Teufel on this monument .
- His name can also be found on the plaque in the former execution room of the Vienna Regional Court and
- on the memorial plaque for the Nazi victims among the workers of the Steyr Daimler Puch AG in Dieselgasse 5c in Vienna-Favoriten .
