Viktor Mrnustik
Viktor Mrnustik (born on October 21, 1902 in Vienna ; executed on January 7, 1943 there ) was an Austrian locksmith's assistant and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime . He was sentenced to death by the Nazi judiciary and executed with the guillotine in the Vienna Regional Court .
Life
Mrnustik was a functionary of the Communist Party of Austria . He was identified by the Gestapo in Vienna on July 5, 1941 , sentenced to death by the People's Court on October 1, 1942 for “preparing for high treason ” and executed in the Vienna Regional Court on January 7, 1943 . Mrnustik was buried in the shaft graves of group 40 (row 32 / grave 217) of the Vienna Central Cemetery.
His wife, Maria Mrnustik, was also arrested.
Commemoration
Two monuments and a plaque commemorate the resistance fighter against the Nazi regime:
- In 1950 a memorial was erected in honor of two members of the anti-fascist resistance group in the Varta accumulator factory (today ÖFA-Akkumulatoren GmbH) who were beheaded in the Vienna Regional Court. It is dedicated to Viktor Mrnustik and Franz Heindl (1906–1944), bears the inscription Never Forgotten and shows two portraits of the resistance fighters. The memorial was located at Siebenhirtenstraße 12 in Vienna-Liesing , on the right after the factory entrance, and was not open to the public for a long time. After the factory was demolished, it was re-erected in front of the entrance to the Liesingen cemetery at Siebenhirtenstrasse 16.
- On November 1, 1954, the freedom fighter memorial was unveiled in the Atzgersdorf cemetery , designed by the sculptor Franz Pixner . It commemorates a total of 24 resistance fighters who lost their lives to Austrofascism and the Nazi regime : Anton Bergauer , Leo Dworschak , Hans Fröhlich , Karl Griesbach , Franz Hauer , Franz and Michael Heindl , Leopold Hofmann , Therese Klostermann , Richard Lehmann , Rudolf Mekiska , Viktor Mrnustik, Heinrich Müller , Josef Müller , Leopold Müller , Josef Nagl , Johann Sauer , Karl Schafhauser , Fritz Seiler , Max Spanner , Leopold Stípčak , Richard Suchy , Johann Teufel and Josef Willinger .
- His name can also be found on the plaque in the former execution room of the Vienna Regional Court .
