The European type , even series Joa , is a small multi-purpose - type of ship .

details

The Joa series consisted of 20 identical units, which were commissioned by the Norwegian company A / S Osloagenturer of the Oslo shipping company Lars Rej Johansen from VEB Elbewerften Boizenburg / Roßlau. This was preceded by a series of eleven units of the somewhat smaller Roßlau type for the same shipping company in 1969/70 . The Europa type was built between 1970 and 1973, with 15 units built at the Elbe shipyard in Boizenburg and 5 units at the Roßlau shipyard . Some of the ships were sold to other Norwegian shipping companies during the construction period.

The design of the ship, the measurement of which had to remain below 200 gross register tonnes, is designed as a small multi-purpose coaster with a deckhouse and a cargo hold arranged aft . The volume of the loading space is 1446 m 3 for bulk goods and 1320 m 3 for bale space. The cargo hold with intermediate deck is equipped for the transport of 16 20-foot standard containers and with removable grain bulkheads. The 22.50 meter long and 6.20 meter wide cargo hold hatch is closed with Balanlift hatch ceilings . The ships were mainly designed for the transport of paper rolls, but they can also be used for other bulk cargo, bulk cargo or containers. The container capacity is 27  TEU . The ships are equipped with electro-hydraulic loading booms with three and five tons lifting capacity in front of and behind the hatch .

The ships are powered by a MaK four-stroke diesel engine of the type 6M282 AK-BB. The engine with an output of 662 kW enables a speed of about 11.4 knots . The use of a bow with a bulbous bow to enable low fuel consumption is noteworthy for coastal ships of this construction period .
