The type VI series cargo ships , also known as the Vyborg series , are multi-purpose general cargo ships from the Warnow shipyard .

history

The series was manufactured in 31 units from 1963 to 1969, with another three technically very similar ships of the Pacific type being built at the end of the series . Eighteen ships were built for the Soviet Union, four each for Norwegian and French shipping companies, three for the People's Republic of China and two for Swiss accounts. The full-decker ships are intended primarily for the combined transport of general cargo, heavy cargo and industrial equipment, as well as refrigerated and frozen cargo, but also bulk cargo and, in some cases, motor vehicles.

  • The first ship and namesake of the series was the Vyborg with hull number 431 , which was handed over on November 5, 1963. The Vyborg was renamed Beidor in 1987 and was demolished in Aliağa on August 2, 1987 .
  • In 1965 built Velikiye Ustyug yard number 439 dropped on March 13, 1968 the position of 41 ° 35 '  N , 51 ° 53'  W .
  • Launched in 1968 with hull number 457, the Hai Men was renamed Xing Long in 1992 and is operated by the Chinese shipping company HOSCO as the last ship of the series remaining in service.
  • The last ship of the series was the Neptune Amethyst, delivered on November 28, 1969 with hull number 474 . The ship was renamed Dong Guang in 1985 . On October 11, 1996, the scrapping of the Dong Guang began in Calcutta .

What is striking about the series is that, despite the large number of ships, only a single loss of ship took place and the majority of the Type VI ships had a short service life of often only around twenty years or less.

technology

The ships were propelled by a 5994 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K9Z70 / 120A5, which acted directly on the fixed propeller and manufactured by the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock under license from MAN .

The hulls with bulbous bow are joined together in a sectional construction.

The five main holds with a volume of 16,779 m 3 grain space and 16,134 m 3 bale space have an intermediate deck . The two refrigerated holds have a further 717 m 3 volume. In some ships of the series, motor vehicles can also be transported on additional foldable tween decks. The loading gear attached to three "A" -shaped bipod masts consists of ten 5/10-ton loading booms , four 10-ton loading booms, a 60-ton heavy-lift boom that can be used for holds II and III and a 2-ton loading boom . Board luffing crane.
