Type certificate (Austria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The type certificate proves that a type approval with national validity (in relation to Austria ) has been granted for a vehicle and is issued by the manufacturer or, in the case of foreign manufacturers, his authorized representative (importer). The approval data of the vehicle are also entered into the approval database by the latter .

The type certificate is now only available for vehicles with Austrian national type approval. These are currently trucks, trailers and tractors from 40 to 50 km / h.

For vehicles with an Austrian national individual permit , you will receive an individual permit .

For vehicles with ECE homologation (EC type approval or EC operating permit) - currently cars, motorcycles, tractors up to 40 km / h, so-called quads and four-wheeled light vehicles (officially: light vehicle or light four-wheeled vehicle) - you get an EU - Declaration of conformity or a data extract from the approval database .

The type certificate consists of three parts:

  • Type approval
  • technical description
  • Registration dates

The type certificate is regulated in Section 30 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1967 and Section 21a of the Motor Vehicle Act Implementation Ordinance 1967. The EC operating license is regulated in Section 21b of the 1967 Motor Vehicle Act.

Type approval

The type approval is a copy of the notification with which a certain type of vehicle is generally approved for use in Austria. The vehicle manufacturer or the importer must apply for this type approval . Although the decision is issued by the state government, it is valid throughout Austria.

technical description

The technical description contains all important data such as engine number and chassis number , but also which tires may be used. The permissible weights such as dead weight and payloads are noted in it. The information ranges from performance , braking system to noise emissions .

In contrast to the vehicle registration document used in Germany, the Austrian type certificate also contains drawings of the approved vehicle type, which, among other things, show the vehicle with its dimensions and its braking scheme.

Changes that contradict the entries, e.g. B. trailer hitches must be entered later. If changes are made to the vehicle that are not noted in the type certificate, there is a risk that liability insurance will refuse its benefits in the event of an accident . There is a particular danger with tires that are not intended according to the type certificate.

Registration dates

The third part contains the registration and deregistration data of the respective owners . So all previous owners of the vehicle are of the type certificate apparent that starts with producers and ends with letztzugelassenem marks , registered owner.

Usage and history

Before the Motor Vehicle Act 1967 came into force, there were no type certificates for motorcycles (also known as mopeds ), only confirmations from the manufacturer or general importer, from which the technical data of the engine emerged. In the case of deregistration and transfer of ownership, this confirmation was made invalid and the data was entered in a new registration certificate , registration certificate.

In the case of vehicles that are leased or bought with a loan , the type certificate was usually withheld by the leasing company or credit institution as security .

A type certificate was required for every vehicle that was registered in Austria . Anyone who bought a new car after July 1, 2007 will receive an extract from the approval database instead of the type certificate document.

In 2005, there was an EU-wide harmonization of the type certificates for registration certificates for certain vehicles .

Type approval is now only possible for vehicles that are not classified as a car, motorcycle or tractor.
