Tyrestahalls
Tyrestahällen ( Samnordisk runtextdatabas Sö 270) is a runic inscription ( Swedish Runhäll ) northwest of Tyresta by in Österhaninge in the Tyresta National Park in Södermanland in Sweden . The inscription is on a steep rock face.
The rune-stone-like inscription on the rock is hardly damaged by weathering. The decoration consists of a ribbon of snakes (Swedish Ormslinga ) with rune text and an Irish belt . The head of the snake is shown in profile. A Christian paw cross with a ring is placed inside the rune ribbon . A bird figure, possibly a rooster or a dove, stands on the cross.
The text reads: “Farbjôrn / Freybjôrn had the inscription made in memory of his son Háulfr. Halfdan scratched the runes. "
The rune scratcher Halfdan, known for Pr3 style inscriptions, who could also be the creator of Runmarsvreten (Sö SB1965; 19) and Urine Gestures (Sö 298), was the scratcher here. Halvdan was active as a rune master on Södertörn in Södermanland in the first half of the 11th century , but only signed Tyrestahalls. Through style, ornamentation and spelling he could be recognized as the author of several rune stones and rune blocks. Sö 235, Sö 237, Sö 239, Sö 244, Sö 245, Sö 247 †, Sö 252, Sö 256, Sö 262, Sö 274, Sö 290, Sö 292, Sö 297 and Sö 301 are also ascribed to him.
