Tytthus pygmaeus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 2.4 to 3.0 millimeters long. The yellow legs, the greenish colored hemielytres and the pale tip of the first antennae are characteristic of the species. The degree of black coloring on the pronotum is variable. The adults mostly have fully developed (macroptere) wings.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed holarctic and occurs everywhere in Europe, with the exception of the south and east over Siberia to North America. In Germany the species is more common than Tytthus pubescens and is probably found everywhere, including in the higher low mountain ranges . The distribution of the species is still insufficiently documented. It is more common in the north than in the south. In Austria it has so far only been found sporadically in the east. Humid to wet sedge stands with vegetation of rushes ( Juncus ) and sedges ( Carex ) are populated , but also damp and dry sweet grass meadows, such as willows, fallow land , semi-dry grassland or beach grass stands on dunes by the North Sea.

Way of life

Tytthus pygmaeus lives on the ground, they rarely climb up the grass. They have also been seen flying. The adult bugs can be seen from June to September at the latest.
