UAB Rūta

UAB Rūta is the oldest Lithuanian confectionery company based in Šiauliai . It bears the name of the Lithuanian national plant "rūta".

history

In 1913, the 36-year-old Antanas Gricevičius in a small wooden house caramel ago. Initially, caramel candies were produced, and later chocolates as well . The candy factory flourished in the inter-war period. At that time the factory had 160 employees and produced 300 different sweets. The pastry chef was awarded four gold medals in the Lithuanian agricultural exhibitions and two medals in international competitions in Italy and England .

In 1940 the factory was nationalized and became a state company . In November 2002, the RŪTA confectionery factory was converted to a joint stock company and then to Uždaroji akcinė bendrovė .
