The Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba ( UNEAC ; Spanish for National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba ) is the umbrella organization for Cuban artists. It should guide the national artists in the spirit of the Cuban revolution. The UNEAC was founded on August 22nd, 1961 by the poet Nicolás Guillén . Other well-known personalities in the UNEAC directorate were Alejo Carpentier , José Lezama Lima and René Portocarrero .

Administrative structure

The governing bodies of UNEAC are the Congress , the National Council, the Presidium, the Secretariat and the executive bodies of the associated associations.

The Presidium has 25 members: the President, the 1st Vice-President and three other Vice-Presidents, the Presidents of the five Associated National Associations, two secretaries and the Presidents of the fifteen Provincial Committees.

The administrative headquarters are located in the Vedado district of the capital Havana .
