UN Watch is a non-governmental organization founded in 1993 that critically examines the activities and decisions of the UN . It is based in Geneva . It was initially chaired by the former US representative to the United Nations, Morris B. Abram . Today UN Watch is led by the former US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Europe, Alfred H. Moses , Honorary President of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Hillel Neuer is the managing director. From 1993 to 2000 UN Watch was affiliated with the World Jewish Congress , and from 2001 to 2013 with the American Jewish Committee .

UN Watch works for a reform of the UN, equality within the UN and equal treatment of the member states. UN Watch has seen disproportionate and unfair treatment of Israel for years , which violates fundamental principles of the UN Charter .

UN Watch provides various UN bodies ( UN Human Rights Council , UN Human Rights Commission, etc.) with statements and publishes articles in the media with large editions. Other non-governmental organizations are invited to join the statements.

The organization accused the UN Sub-Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights of exceeding its mandate, since it had convicted Israel of human rights violations in the 2006 Lebanon war . Jean Ziegler , the UN special envoy for the right to food, was accused of exceeding the mandate because he saw the occupation of the Palestinian Territories by Israel as a violation of the right to food.

UN Watch encourages email campaigns such as letters to UN officials regarding Hezbollah , Holocaust denial in Iran, and anti-Semitic / anti-Christian textbooks in Egypt and Saudi Arabia .
