Alfred H. Moses

Alfred H. Moses (born July 24, 1929 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American attorney and diplomat and former advisor to US President Jimmy Carter . He is also Honorary President of the American Jewish Committee , which he chaired from 1991 to 1994.

Life

After graduating from Baltimore City College , Moses studied international relations at Dartmouth College (BA 1951) and law at Princeton University and Georgetown University ( JD 1956), where he was editor of the Georgetown Law Review . He also served as an officer in the United States Navy . He then became a member of the international law firm Covington & Burling in Washington, DC and worked for the consulting firm Promontory Financial Group , currently as CSO .

He was also Special Advisor and Special Counsel to US President Jimmy Carter . In 1994 President Bill Clinton appointed him to succeed John R. Davis as US ambassador to Romania . From 1999 to 2011 he was Special Presidential Emissary for the Cyprus conflict. He was President of the American Jewish Committee from 1991 to 1994 and has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations since 1977 . Moses holds (e) numerous other offices a. a. as chairman of the non-governmental organization UN Watch and the Project on Ethnic Relations .

He published articles in u. a. The New York Times , International Herald Tribune, and The Washington Post .
