Simon Maina Munyi

Simon Maina Munyi (born March 18, 1978 ) is a retired Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

In 1997 he came to Japan , where he started for the Toyota company team . The following year he finished second at the Goodwill Games over 10,000 m and won the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur with a lead of over 50 seconds.

In 2000, he finished seventh in the Tokyo Half Marathon and won the Nagoya Half Marathon. In 2001 he set a world best time of 45:29 min at the 10 miles of Kosa . In 2004 and 2005 he finished third in the Sapporo Half Marathon ; At the Nagoya Half Marathon , a second place in 2005 was followed by a victory in 2006.

In 1997 and 1998 he was Japanese champion over 5000 m , in 2003 he started out of competition first.

After a long break from injury, he was fired from his team. Friends referred him to an automotive supplier who hired him and Joseph Mwaura Kamau , another Kenyan runner in the same situation, in September 2007 and set up an athletics team for their training. In October 2008, the two Kenyans were in detention taken because the Immigration Department but knew them their athletes visa.
