The UR-77 ( Russian У становка р азминирования- 77 , short: УР-77 “Метеорит” ; German “mine clearance system 77, UR-77 'meteorite”) is a military mine clearance system from Soviet production that was developed in the 1970s . It replaced the UR-67 system from 1977 .
Mission concept
The UR-77 uses the pyrotechnic mine clearance method , which means that the clearance of obstacles and demining is carried out using rocket-propelled "mine-clearing cords". For the task, the turret was removed and replaced with a new turret construction. For mine clearing, the tank has two explosive “mine clearing cords” on the tower roof and various attachments for the front of the tub. One charge wipes out a mined area measuring 90 × 6 meters. With the UR-77, clearing cords of the types US-67 ( Russian УЗ-67 ), USP-77 ( УЗП-77 ) and SRSCH ( ЗРШ ) can be used, which essentially differ in the length of the cord, the type of explosive used and the mass. The crew is two people. In the civil war in Syria and the Ukraine War was the UR-77 used in an urban area several reported.
Base vehicle
The UR-77 is based on the chassis of the 2S1 self-propelled howitzer, which is an extended version of the MT-LBu chain chassis. The total mass with a full load is 15.5 tons with armor of 20 millimeters of armor steel. The vehicle is driven by a JaMS-238N , a V8 diesel engine with direct injection from the Russian manufacturer Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod . With a displacement of 14,866 cm³, the engine produces an output of 300 hp (221 kW) at 2100 rpm. The gearbox in the front of the vehicle is driven via the main clutch and a short cardan shaft .
