The USS Lancetfish (SS-296) was a submarine of the Balao class and served in the US Navy . It was named after the lance fish . The Lancetfish was built and put into service during the Second World War, but sank shortly after its commissioning on March 24, 1945 lying in the port of Boston in an accident and was therefore no longer used in the war. Afterwards, salvaged and repaired, the Lancetfish was transferred to the reserve fleet at the end of the war and remained there until it was finally deleted from the fleet register in June 1958. During this time, she served as a training submarine of the 11th Marine District. The Lancetfish was sold for scrapping and scrapped in 1959.
