The frigate USS McCloy (DE / FF-1038) was the second Bronstein-class ship . It was named after Lt. Comdr. John McCloy , a dual carrier of Medal of Honor from the time of the First World War . The ship served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1990, and in 1993 she was sold to Mexico , where she is still in service with the Armada de México .
history
The keel was laid on September 15, 1961 at Avondale Shipyard in Westwego , Louisiana . The launch took place on June 9, 1962, on October 21, 1963 the McCloy was put into service as an escort destroyer (DE) with the Navy.
She was stationed in Newport , Rhode Island , and served in the Atlantic Fleet until decommissioned on December 14, 1990 . In 1993 she was sold to the Mexican Navy together with her sister ship, the Bronstein .

The McCloy was mostly used in carrier combat groups . Several voyages also brought her to European waters, where she operated together with ships of the NATO allies. During Fleet Week in April 1989, she was part of the Forrestal combat group .
During a mission against Bermuda in late October 1983, the cable entangled their towing sonar of a Soviet in the screw submarine of the Victor-class submarine , the next day by the crew of a P-3 Orion was found to maneuver on the surface. The submarine was towed by a Soviet salvage ship and towed to Cuba.
