The USS Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001) is a staged into service on January 26, 2019 destroyer of the United States Navy (USN) and after the USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) , the second ship of the Zumwalt class .

Naming

The USS Michael Monsoor was named after Master-at-Arms Second Class Michael A. Monsoor (1981-2006), a United States Navy Seal who was killed and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor during the Iraq War .

history

Construction of the DDG-1001 began in March 2010. The keel was laid in the General Dynamics - Bath Iron Works shipyard on May 23, 2013. The christening took place on June 18, 2016. On December 4, 2017, the ship set sail for the first time before the ship was handed over to the Navy in April 2018.
