Udo from Osnabrück

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Udo von Osnabrück († June 28/29 , 1141 ) (often also called Udo von Steinfurt ) was Bishop of Osnabrück from 1137 to 1141 .

Life

The older literature says that Udo came from the Steinfurt house . But this is not guaranteed. Before he was promoted to bishop, he was provost of St. Moritz in Hildesheim.

It was probably invested by Konrad III. He may have been present in Koblenz when he was elected in 1138 . In the following he was also loyal to this. He can be traced back to the royal court in Cologne and Bamberg in 1138, in Goslar in 1139 and in Worms in 1140 as a witness to various legal acts. It is possible that he contributed to the Duchy of Bavaria being taken from Heinrich the Proud at the Court Day in Goslar .

He started the foundation of the Gertrudenberg monastery near Osnabrück . The foundation was only completed by his successor. The two towers on the cathedral in Osnabrück were also started in his time and the reconstruction was thus completed.
