Uejima Onitsura
Uejima Onitsura ( Japanese 上 島 鬼 貫 , Ueshima Onitsura , Kamijima Onitsura ; born April 4, 1661 in Itami ; † August 2, 1738 ) was a Japanese haiku poet.
The son of a sake brewer was known as a talented haikai poet as a child. He became a student of Nishiyama Sōin , the founder of the Danrin poetry school. In addition to haiku poems, he wrote two writings on poetics: Hitorigoto (1718) and Nanakuruma (1738). He also appeared as the author of a fictional travelogue Kinsoku no ryoki ( travelogue of someone under house arrest , 1690).
Uejima's tomb is at Kakuman-ji in Osaka.
