history

The URCS was founded in 1964. In 1965 the organization became a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies .

In 2001 the organization underwent a reorganization, including the adoption of new statutes and the formation of a new board.

In the conflict between the Ugandan government and the rebels of the Lord's Resistance Army in the north of the country, which resulted in many residents of the region being displaced, the URCS temporarily ceased its activities in the districts of Pader , Kitgum and Gulu in February 2003 after a Red Cross convoy was attacked and looted by rebels near Paiula in the Pader district, injuring six employees, some seriously.
