Uggie

Uggie (born 2002, euthanized on August 7, 2015 ) was a wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier who won the Palm Dog Award at the Cannes International Film Festival .

Life

After two previous owners and a stay at the shelter , Uggie was picked up by the animal trainer Omar von Muller and trained by him and Sarah Clifford .

After several unnamed appearances in film and television, he played the dog "Queenie" in water for the elephants and had a leading role as "Jack" in the award-winning film The Artist . In the fictional films within the film, he gets credits as "Uggy". Uggie was honored with the Golden Collar, a new film award, for his role.

The “Consider Uggie” campaign (takes Uggie into account) on Facebook and Twitter tried to soften the rules of the Academy , which only provide for an Academy Awards to be given to human actors.

After developing prostate cancer, Uggie had to be put to sleep in Los Angeles in early August 2015 .
