Dobržensky von Dobrženitz ( Czech Dobřenští z Dobřenic , also Dobržensky z Dobrženitz ) is a Bohemian noble family from Dobřenice southwest of Hradec Králové .

history

The first mention of the family comes from the 14th century. Heinrich Kunata Dobrženský († 1619) on Worel fought against the Turks in Hungary, was elected captain of the Chrudim district several times , he was also chairman of the regional court and from 1615 to 1618 a member of the higher court of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Wenzel Christoph Dobrženský († 1683) on Worel was Chrudimer district chief from 1680 to 1683. Johann Dobržensky was a landowner in Kratonohy and was known as a farmer and horse breeder. Most of the members of the house embarked on a military career, such as Anton Dobrženský von Dobrženitz (1807-1869), who was field marshal. Other representatives of the family served or were commanders of various dragoons and lancers regiments.

As one of 64 noble families, the family received a hereditary seat in the manor house on February 26, 1912 , the upper house of the Austrian Imperial Council .

Possessions

Potštejn Castle
Chotěboř Castle

There were possessions in Chotěboř (Chotieborsch), Neděliště , Úhrov , Uhelná Příbram , Nejepín , Plandry ( Preitenhof ) and Potštejn ( Pottenstein ) in Bohemia. Before the First World War , they turned the castle in Potštejn into a cultural center. a. was visited by Rainer Maria Rilke and Karl Kraus . After 1948 the family was expropriated. After the end of communist rule in 1989, the family got the castle and lands in Chotěboř back, to which part of the family moved again.

Family coat of arms

The family coat of arms shows a white stork on a blue background. According to legend, the progenitor of the family was captured by the Turks. A stork that moved north in the summer is said to have shown him the way back home.

The municipal coat of arms of Velký Třebešov , Valy and Preitenhof (Plandry) also shows the white stork on a blue background of those of Dobrženský von Dobrženitz. The municipal coat of arms of Neděliště is based on the family coat of arms.
