Clock (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The clock is a common figure in heraldry and rare as a coat of arms figure . There are three representations. One time the image of a sundial and another time a simple pointer clock is shown in the heraldic shield or heraldic field . The third variant not described here is the hourglass (heraldry) . All heraldic colors are allowed, just follow the heraldic rules.

sundial

The sundial is represented by a segment of a circle with a time scale and a pole rod and rod shadow. The side of the shadow showing the time must be mentioned in the description of the coat of arms . The design of the sundial and time scale is to be described in such a way that a heraldist can create a coat of arms outline.

Pointer watch

In the description of the coat of arms, in addition to a sufficient description of the clock face, the type of numerals should be mentioned: Roman or Arabic numbers. Unlabelled hour marks are also an important criterion. A clock tower with the chronometer is also possible, which should be mentioned in the blazon. Maximilian Gritzner mentions a Bavarian Zaiger family in his large and general book of arms, whose coat of arms is eloquent .
