Beyer store

The Beyer Chronometrie AG is the oldest watch shop in Switzerland . The family company is now managed by René Beyer in the 8th generation and is based on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich .

history

The Beyer company was founded in Feuerthalen in 1760 . In 1800 a shop was opened on Niederdorfstrasse in Zurich. The Limmatquai became the main shopping street . Theodor Beyer-Danioth was the managing director at that time. In 1877 the company moved to the main building of the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt . A few years later the company was headed by Adelrich Beyer. In 1927, the company moved into the newly built house at Bahnhofstrasse 31, where larger rooms could be rented. In 1946 Theodor R. Beyer, the father of the current owner, entered his father's business, Theodor Beyer, and took over management in 1955.

In 1948 the company was converted into a stock corporation . The shares are fully family owned. Between 1970 and 1971 the shop was rebuilt. The museum of time measurement , which is now called the Beyer Clock Museum in Zurich , was integrated into the store. In 1982 the business premises were rebuilt again (exhibition rooms, sales rooms, shop windows and offices) and the museum.

René Beyer has been operational management since 1996. In 1997/98 the premises were rebuilt inside and outside again. In 2002 the company opened its own goldsmith department. Today, six goldsmiths produce fine pieces of jewelry, from classic jewelry to modern creations to one-off items that are custom-made.

In 2010 the Beyer company celebrated its 250th anniversary. The story was dealt with in an anniversary magazine. In 2011 the Patek Philippe Boutique opened right next door. It is the first dealer-run Patek Philippe boutique in Switzerland. In 2011 the store was renovated and rebuilt again. A new Rolex Corner and a Diamond Center await customers.

Today the company has 65 employees who work in sales, service, administration and the watch workshop. Beyer also sells its own label watches, antique watches and commission watches.
