Rudolf Freese

Rudolf Diedrich Freese (born February 8, 1879 in Oldenburg ; † February 19, 1963 there ) was a German politician ( FDP ) and from 1945 president of the Oldenburg Chamber of Crafts .

Life

The son of the master carpenter Johann Freese and his wife Lene geb. After attending the city boys' school in Oldenburg, Gerdes began his apprenticeship with his father. After his apprenticeship he went on a journey as a journeyman for two years and, after passing his master craftsman's examination (1908), joined the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91 for two years . In 1910 he went into business for himself and at an early age, besides his professional activity, advocated the interests of the craft. From 1914 to 1918 he participated in the First World War and returned from service as a deputy sergeant . Upon his return, he entered his father's business.

From 1921 to 1924 he was chairman of the Oldenburg regional association of the Lower Saxony handicrafts and from 1930 to 1934 head master of the Oldenburg carpenters ' guild . From 1925 to 1928 he represented the economic interests of the middle class as a member of the regional bloc in the Oldenburg state parliament . Since Freese refused to join the National Socialists , he had to resign from his honorary posts in 1933/34. In the difficult post-war period, on July 20, 1945, he was appointed President of the Chamber of Crafts, at the request of the last Oldenburg Minister-President, Theodor Tantzen, who was reinstated for a short time in 1945, and he made a significant contribution to its reconstruction. The founding member of the Oldenburg FDP, for whom Freese sat in the second electoral period from May 6, 1951 to May 5, 1955 in the Lower Saxony state parliament , held his office with caution and with the endeavor to promote the vocational training of young skilled craftsmen until he was eighty . For his services he was also given important honorary posts by other chamber presidents, such as the chairmanship of the vocational training committee of the Central Association of German Crafts (1947) and the deputy chairmanship of the German Society for the Promotion of Commercial Education (1948). He also became a member of the supervisory board of the Central Bank of the Nordwestdeutscher Volksbanken, the supervisory board of the Volksbank Oldenburg , which he chaired from 1945 to 1961, and the advisory board of the State Insurance Company Oldenburg-Bremen . From 1945 to 1948 Freese was also a member of the City Council of Oldenburg and, since 1948, the committee of the Oldenburg State Federation. The Central Association of German Crafts honored the holder of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1952) on the occasion of its general assembly in Berlin in 1957 for his services to the German craft as the first with the craft badge in gold .
