Ukhrul is a place in the state of Manipur in northeast India . It is the administrative seat of the Ukhrul district . Ukhrul is located in the mountains in the northeast of Manipur around 80 kilometers northeast of Manipur's capital Imphal . The place extends in a north-south direction on a ridge and is at an altitude of 1,800 meters.
The area of Ukhrul is inhabited by the Tangkhul , a Naga tribe. Most of the residents are Christians . In connection with the discussion about the political integration of the Naga minority in Manipur, some of which are violently fighting for independence or an affiliation to the neighboring state of Nagaland , the Nationalist Congress Party promised in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Manipur in 2012 that Ukhrul would be victorious the second capital of the state.
