The 3 Maja Street (German Grundmann Street ) is an inner-city street in Katowice , Poland . It runs in an east-west direction and connects the Rynek and Plac Wolności . According to Cushman & Wakefield , the street is one of the streets with the highest rental prices in Poland, in 2010 and 2011 it took fifth place, in 2014 it was still seventh. It is considered one of the most elegant shopping streets in Katowice.

Ul. 3 Maya begins at Rynek ( market square ) and runs west past Plac Wilhelma Szewczyka with Galeria Katowicka and Katowice train station to Plac Wolności, where it crosses Ulica Juliusza Słowackiego . Two side streets lead into 3 Maja, Ulica Wawelska and Ulica Stawowa . The street between Rynek and ul. Juliusza Słowackiego is a pedestrian zone, it is only used by trams, at the corner of ul. 3 Maja and ul. Stawowa there is the Dworzec PKP stop .

At the western end of the street, where Plac Wolności is today, there was the "Jacob" ironworks in the first half of the nineteenth century. The street was formed in 1856, until the middle of the nineteenth century the street was known as "Industriestraße". In 1867 it was renamed “Grundmannstraße” in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm Grundmann . A tram has been running on 3 Maja Street since 1908. In 2010, the renovation work at Katowice station and the construction of Galeria Katowicka began , in the course of this work, the plac Wilhelma Szewczyka adjacent to ul. 3 Maja was built over. In 2013/14 the street between the Rynek and the Juliusza Słowackiego junction was completely renovated for 40 million złoty .

  • ul.3 Maja 6/8, residential and commercial building "Kamienica pod Butem" (no. rej .: A / 1390/89) The house consists of two buildings, the one on the left is in Art Nouveau style and the one on the right in neo-Gothic style between 1903 and 1907 was built by Hugo Grünfeld .
  • ul. 3 Maja 7, residential and commercial building, built in 1909. From the beginning it housed the “Colosseum” movie theater, now the Światowid cinema is located there.
  • ul. 3 Maja 9 Dom Handlowy Gebrüder Barasch, built in 1902
  • ul. 3 Maja 10, built in 1899 by A. Zimmermann
  • ul. 3 Maja 15, residential building built in 1898
  • ul. 3 Maja 17, residential building
  • ul. 3 Maja and ul. Juliusza Słowackiego 22, residential building (no. rej .: 1303/83). The old synagogue used to be on this.
  • ul. 3 Maja, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 33, 36, 38 and 42 residential buildings.
