Ulrich Freise (born September 7, 1955 in Cologne ) is a German political official ( SPD ). From 2003 to 2011 he was State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Internal Affairs and Sport.

Life and work

Freise grew up in Siegburg and Essen. After completing his military service, he studied law in Bochum and Freiburg i.Br. from 1975 to 1981 . He completed his legal traineeship in the district of the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court, while from 1982 to 1983 he worked as an assistant at the University of Geneva.

After passing the second state examination in Stuttgart, Freise worked as a lawyer in Berlin. From 1985 to 1986 he was a public prosecutor at the Berlin Regional Court, then until 1987 a judge at the Tiergarten District Court. He then moved to the Senate Department for Justice. From 1996 to 2003 he headed the Department of Justice, Social Services and Mercy in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Justice.

Freise is currently a member of the management board of PIN Mail AG. Here he is largely responsible for PIN Services GmbH.

Ulrich Freise is married and has three children.

Freise has been a member of the SPD since 1990.

From February 3, 2003, Freise was State Secretary in the Senate Department for the Interior, led by Ehrhart Körting (SPD) (from 2006 Senate Department for the Interior and Sport). He succeeded Lutz Diwell , who became State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior . Freise was responsible for the internal affairs department and was also IT State Secretary for the State of Berlin. As part of the negotiations for the formation of the red-black coalition after the parliamentary elections in 2011 , the CDU under Frank Henkel was given responsibility for the interior department. Freise was put into provisional retirement.
