The PIN AG (outdoor appearance PIN Mail ) is an operating across Germany private postal companies with about 1,300 employees and processed every day up to 750,000 shipments. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Postcon National and its parent company, Quantum Capital Partners .

At the company's headquarters in Berlin , the company operates 18 logistic branches (depots) with customer areas and over 500 mailboxes as well as services in over 240 PIN partner shops. The items are processed in our own mail center and sent nationwide and internationally. A mail portal is also offered. The so-called " last mile " of letter delivery is handled by the PIN only in Berlin.

history

The company, which was founded as PIN intelligent services AG on April 8, 1999, started delivery operations on August 17, 1999 with five employees. In May 2001, PIN expanded to Leipzig . As one of the first private postal companies, PIN received all the necessary licenses from the Federal Network Agency for the transport and delivery of letter mail.

In April 2006, PIN intelligent services was bought by the publishing houses Axel Springer , WAZ and Holtzbrinck and incorporated into the PIN Group as PIN Mail . Since October 2008, PIN Mail has been a full subsidiary of the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group. In June 2009 a strategic partnership with TNT Post Germany was announced. TNT Post held a 40% stake in 13 postal companies belonging to the Holtzbrinck publishing group.

After the Federal Administrative Court declared the minimum wage for postal companies to be invalid in January 2010, the company announced that it would reduce the wage to 8.50 euros per hour, with performance bonuses that can reach 9.80 euros again with good quality.

Collective bargaining was scheduled for December 20, 2010 with the services union ver.di. However, these were canceled by the PIN-Mail board on the grounds that "not all employees feel represented by the works council they have chosen themselves".

In November 2011, PIN Mail announced that its own branches would be closed. According to its own information, the company is reacting to the impending reintroduction of minimum wages.

Envelope, transported from Berlin to Cologne by PIN Mail

At the beginning of December 2016, Postcon applied to the Federal Cartel Office to take over the majority of PIN Mail AG and the nationwide mail network Mail Alliance . So far, Postcon has held an equal share in both companies in a joint venture with the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group .

criticism

In February 2013, Der Tagesspiegel reported that the address, street, house number and postcode of the business and government mails were photographed and stored for three months. The address data obtained from this is stored for five months, for a year in the case of registered mail . PIN Mail justified this with returns management , quality assurance , complaint management , billing and answering inquiries from major customers. The data would not be used for acquisition or geoscoring purposes. According to PIN Mail, employees of the Federal Data Protection Commissioner were not able to determine “any serious data breaches” during a check in April 2013.

Naming

The name “PIN” is not an abbreviation and has no meaning in terms of content. It is due to the fact that the founders used pins (needles, drawing pins) to choose possible locations on the Berlin city map.
