Ulrich Mücke

Ulrich Mücke (born March 25, 1965 in Dillenburg ) is a German historian .

Ulrich Mücke studied history, political science and philosophy at the University of Hamburg from 1988 to 1994 . His master's thesis dealt with the image of the Indians in Peruvian liberalism. In June 1997 he received his doctorate in Hamburg with Horst Pietschmann and Renate Pieper with the thesis Origin, Structure and Government Practice of the Partido Civil Peru, 1871–1879 . Mücke received the Kurt-Hartwig-Siemers Science Prize in 1997 . From 1997 to 1998 Mücke was a research assistant at the University of Hamburg. From 1999 to 2001 he was a research assistant at the University of Erfurt . From 2002 to 2007 Mücke was junior professor for modern and contemporary history of Romania at the University of Göttingen . In 2006 he was visiting professor at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos . Since 2007 Mücke has been teaching as Pietschmann's successor as professor for the history of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula at the History Department of the University of Hamburg. His research interests are the history of the 19th century, Atlantic history, Latin American history, the history of self-testimonies in Latin America, migration history and the history of international trade. Since 2012 he has been editor of the yearbook for the history of Latin America . With Jochen Meissner and Klaus Weber he presented a German-language overview of slavery in the Atlantic area.
