Ulrich Mehler

Ulrich Mehler (* 1941 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † 2019 in Borkum ) was a German Germanic Medievalist .

life and work

He studied German, musicology , Middle Latin philology and theater studies . After his doctorate ( Dicere and cantare. On the musical terminology and performance practice of medieval sacred drama in Germany ) in Cologne in 1980 and his habilitation in 1989 there ( Lamentations of Mary in late medieval and early modern Germany. Text verse and melody type ) he taught at the University of Cologne as an adjunct professor for older German language and literature.

His research areas were the performance practice of medieval literature and the theory and practice of storytelling.
