Ulrich Sauerborn

Ulrich Gerhard Sauerborn (* 1956 in Aalen ) is a German museum director and fossil collector.

Sauerborn completed an apprenticeship as an optician after graduating from high school in 1977 and was employed by the Carl Zeiss company in Aalen from 1980 to 1984. He then began studying at the University of Education in Schwäbisch Gmünd , which he finished in 1988. Between 1977 and 1987 he was employed at various museums as a volunteer and in fee work. He was also a fossil collector in the Malmzeitlichen coral limestone of Nattheim . In 1982 and 1986 he took part in paleontological excavations by Elmar PJ Heizmann in the Steinheim basin . He mainly collects in the Jura (Lias, Malm) of the Swabian Alb .

Sauerborn has been employed by the city of Aalen as museum director since 1988. In this role he works at the Limes Museum Aalen for museum education, organization and visitor care. In addition, since 1991 he has been director of the city's Urweltmuseum in Aalen.

From 1985 he was chairman of the Ostalb geological group (founded in 1961 by Fritz Sauter), an association of collectors and paleontologists. He is a member of the Paleontological Society and the Society for Prehistory and Early History in Württemberg and Hohenzollern.
