Ulrich Schnitzer

Ulrich Schnitzer (* 1937 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German architect , professor emeritus and author. From 1980 he was Professor of Planning and Building in Rural Areas at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) , later also Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and a member of the Board of Directors of the Inter-Facultative Institute for Regional Science.

Life

Ulrich Schnitzer studied architecture at the University of Karlsruhe (since 2009 Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT) and graduated in 1966 with a diploma under Egon Eiermann . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Local, Regional and State Planning (ORL) University of Karlsruhe. In 1969 Schnitzer became a Dr.-Ing. With the work "Investigations into the planning of riding facilities". PhD. In 1973/74 he worked as an academic councilor before he completed his habilitation in 1977. In 1980 he became a university professor for planning and building in rural areas at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). 1986–88 he was dean of this faculty and from 1997–2001 on the board of directors of the inter-faculty institute for regional science.

Schnitzer has been working as a freelance architect since 1966, and has shared an office with Dipl.-Ing. Maria Plank. In addition to his work as an architect, he is a publicly appointed and sworn expert for horse keeping, stable construction and riding facilities. He is also active in equestrian sports (dressage).

Schnitzer lives and works in Karlsruhe .

Act

Schnitzer's main research areas are development planning in rural areas, animal husbandry systems, agricultural construction, building for equestrian sports and dealing with historical rural buildings, especially the Black Forest farmhouse. The focal points of his work as an architect are designed accordingly.

Schnitzer received the Ernst Hutzenlaub Tierschutz-Forschungspreis in 1978 together with Peter Kämmer, in 1980 the Medal of Merit of the Black Forest Association and in 1984 the Hugo Häring Prize for the Sport Horse Research Center Baden-Baden in Iffezheim . In 2008 he was awarded the German equestrian cross in silver.

Schnitzer was involved in working groups of the German Equestrian Association (FN) , the Federal Ministry of Nutrition on the subject of animal welfare in equestrian sport and horse keeping and in the applied ethology group of the German Veterinary Medical Society as well as the hoof shoeing law and regulation .
