Ulrich Weiß (engineer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich Weiß (* 1968 in Vaihingen an der Enz ) is a German engineer and manager and was head of diesel engine development at Audi AG until November 2015 . He was known primarily for his legal battle with the Audi AG as part of diesel engines - exhaust scandal . During this legal dispute, he burdened Rupert Stadler , CEO of Audi AG, considerably.

Career

Ulrich Weiß studied internal combustion engines at the University of Stuttgart at the Institute of Automotive Engineering and Combustion / Internal Combustion Engines. He completed this course with the academic degree of Diplom-Ingenieur .

His professional career as a test engineer in racing began at Audi Sport in 1994 . In October 2001 he moved to the Formula 1 division of Daimler AG as a project manager . From 2005 to 2011 Ulrich Weiß was responsible for the construction of heavy commercial vehicle engines at Daimler AG. Ulrich Weiß returned to Audi in July 2011. In March 2012, Weiß took over the management of diesel engine development at Audi from Richard Bauder, who was retiring.

Due to the emissions scandal , Weiß was initially paid leave in November 2015 and terminated without notice in mid-February 2017. This termination was later withdrawn by Audi. Audi and Ulrich Weiß then parted ways by mutual agreement.

Since April 1, 2019, Weiß has been the technical director at Liebherr Machine Bulle SA. There he is responsible for the development of diesel engines for the construction machinery group Liebherr.

Litigation before the labor court

Ulrich Weiß filed a lawsuit against this exemption through his lawyers at the Heilbronn Labor Court . The former head of Audi diesel engine development is suing for reinstatement there. It is also a question of whether the engineers or the management are responsible for the years of fraud. The background is that a lot depends on the respective responsibilities, because if top management knew something, billions of dollars would follow from investors.

During this labor law process, internal papers from a working group from 2012 were also quoted which dealt with this exhaust gas fraud. The working group is said to have been directly subordinate to Rupert Stadler , say the plaintiffs around Weiss. This would have informed the Audi board and especially the chairman of the board, Stadler, years before the emissions scandal was discovered. This has been denied by all top managers so far. On February 21, 2017, Ulrich Weiß’s lawyer also read from the minutes of the conversation between Weiß and Stadler about his exemption: “Stadler emphasizes that everything happened under pressure from VW and the VW supervisory board.” When Weiß then remarked that he Stadler is said to have replied: “There is something true about it.” These statements are currently denied by Stadler. Weiß adds that "there was internal transparency", which would mean that management knew about it.

In the next round before the fifth chamber of the Heilbronn labor court, the judges around the presiding judge Carsten Witt, on his express question, were refused the VW internal investigation report on the emissions affair of the US law firm Jones Day , as this, according to Audi lawyers does not exist.

According to Audi's own statement, the lawyers turned down an amicable settlement in view of a sum of six million euros allegedly requested by Weiß.
