Radames Eger (* 1984 in Piracicaba , State of São Paulo , Brazil ) is an Afro-Brazilian fashion designer, artist and city original who lives and works in Frankfurt am Main .

He became known nationwide for his campaign to tailor sleeping bags for the homeless from umbrellas.

Live and act

Eger comes from a poor district - a favela - in São Paulo and comes from a family with a total of eight children from the poorest and most miserable backgrounds. Through music and dance he was able to escape the difficult circumstances and received a scholarship that brought him to Europe. He worked as a dancer at the Vienna Opera for two years , but had to give up this activity due to injury. He learned tailoring in a social institution. He continues his studies with a professional designer and lecturer in Frankfurt am Main.

He has lived in Frankfurt since 2009, before that he lived in Paris and Berlin , kept his head above water with auxiliary jobs and traveled aimlessly through Europe, where he came to Palma de Mallorca , Madrid , London , Amsterdam and Vigo .

Radames is well-known in Frankfurt, especially for his self-worn and strikingly eccentric fashion (satin dress, headband and sandals) and his commitment to the homeless.

Regional and national media reported on his work, such as the Frankfurter Rundschau , the television of the Hessischer Rundfunk and the ZDF program "Volle Kanne".

In 2017 he was seen in a house / trance music video dedicated to him (Fckn High; Dj To5Z).

His fashion should primarily serve minorities and the socially disadvantaged; He tailors fashion for children, people with dementia , the elderly, the homeless and the disabled, and he caters to their respective fashion needs.

In 2017 a jacket was shown at the Museum of Modern Art Cologne (MAKK) as part of the "Ökorausch" exhibition.

Commitment to the homeless

His commitment to the homeless came about by chance: He was approached by a man who wanted a shirt like him, which he had designed himself. That gave him the idea to create something for this man. For this he looked for an unusual material and found it in lost, forgotten and discarded umbrellas. He founded his own label (Radames Eger Couture) and his own atelier in Frankfurt and designed “Exist”, a collection consisting of twelve-piece garments. For example from “sleeping jacket pockets” or “tent jacket pockets”. The collection changes every two years, including a “New York Times Collection”, a “Frizz Magazine Collection” and an “Extra Tip Collection”.

His fashion should be functional and environmentally friendly. Around 70 umbrella sleeping bags are in use nationwide, around 40 of which are in Frankfurt.

He gets his material mainly from clubs, who leave him umbrellas from guests, from which he then tailors his blankets. Some guests even bring him extra umbrellas. In 2017 he gave a workshop entitled "Start giving love" in a club in Offenbach .

His goal is to make Frankfurt am Main Germany's fashion capital in 2020.
