Ullrich Wimmer

Ullrich Wimmer (born February 22, 1947 ) is a Protestant theologian . He is also a collector and expert in mechanical musical instruments with a focus on barrel organ .

Life

Wimmer studied theology and philosophy in Wuppertal, Münster and Bonn. In 1977 he was in Bonn with a thesis on Pneumatology magna cum laude doctorate . The work was awarded a prize from the University of Bonn. From 1973 he was a research assistant and lecturer for the history of theology at the University of Cologne , worked scientifically in Basel, then moved to a parish parish in Waldbröl (Oberbergischer Kreis) in 1985 and was theological in the regional church office of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Düsseldorf from 1993 to 2007 Head of department with the title of Council of Churches. Here he was responsible for the editing of the Evangelical Hymnbook for the edition of Rhineland, Westphalia, Lippe, Evangelical-Reformed Church (EG, 1996). Wimmer published articles, encyclopedia articles and monographs.

He has been collecting mechanical musical instruments with a focus on barrel organ since the 1970s . He is a member of relevant collectors' associations at home and abroad, chairman of the international scientific advisory board of the Society for Self-Playing Musical Instruments (GSM) and writes in relevant journals such as the journal of the Society for Self-Playing Musical Instruments "The Mechanical Musical Instrument" or the magazine of the Club Deutscher Drehorgelfreunde The barrel organ on the subject of mechanical music. In 2000 the standard work on mechanical music was published, Everything But Everyday. The cheerful world of mechanical music .

Since 2008 he has presented his collection of historical mechanical musical instruments in the Bergisches Drehorgelmuseum , the museum for music automatons in the Bergisches Land in Marienheide-Kempershöhe. The museum is a member of the Association of Rhenish Museums, the natural arena Bergisches Land "Das Bergische" and belongs to the German Orgelstrasse in the network of the European Organ Roads EPOS. It is entered in the nationwide directory and in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind.

With Doris van Rhee, Waldbröl, and the organ builder Axel Stüber, Berlin, he formed the “Leierkastenheiterkeit” group of morities and kitchen songs. She was well known in the scene through appearances in museums, universities, churches and festivals in Europe and abroad.

Wimmer holds scientific and popular lectures on the subject of mechanical music and gives concerts with mechanical musical instruments, also together with well-known organists such as Andreas Meisner in Altenberger Dom, Reinhold Richter in Rheindahlen or Thorsten Pech (Wuppertal), for example as part of the International Düsseldorf Organ Festival (ido) 2017.
