The Ulrichsbrücke (also called Lechhauser Lechbrücke ) is a bridge in Augsburg that spans the Lech . It is located north of the city center and serves as a connection to the Lechhausen district . In May 1995 the city of Augsburg gave the bridge the name "Ulrichsbrücke".

history

The first Lech bridge at this point was built in 1807 and donated by the St. Ulrich monastery. It was a simple wooden yoke bridge . In 1832 a wooden bridge was built again. An iron Lech bridge followed in 1892, the construction of which was financed by the Bavarian state. In 1938 responsibility for the bridge fell to the city of Augsburg.

After the Second World War, complaints were made about the narrow flow width during floods and other structural damage. For these reasons, a new bridge made of prestressed concrete was built in 1950 . Instead of the previously achieved 10 meters, it was now almost 26 meters wide. The executing company was Thosti Bau AG.

In 1986 and 1987 the aged prestressed concrete bridge was completely renovated. Due to the harmful effects of road salt, this bridge had to be renovated again over the years, so that at the end of the 20th century plans for a new building were tackled. The groundbreaking for the new building then took place in January 2008. After a construction period of more than two years, the project was completed in October 2010.

Ulrichsstein

Directly next to the Ulrichsbrücke, the city erected a memorial on the Lechufer facing the city center in 1955 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the battle on the Lechfeld . The so-called Ulrichsstein was created according to a design by town planner Walther Schmidt
